Compiler: Brad Sparks. Email: [log in to unmask] Greater White-Fronted Goose: On 2/5 Karl Overman and friends located 7 birds in a flooded field on the south side of route 6 in Sandusky County. They were opposite parking area D of Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area. ROSS' GOOSE: Four birds were found by Brad Sparks among the hordes of Canada Geese on Lake White in Pike County on 2/2. CACKLING GOOSE: The strong winds of last week must have blown some of these birds into Ohio, as quite a few were reported. On 2/2 Nate Nye noticed 2 birds on a pond near the intersection of Spindler Road and Summerlawn Drive in Hilliard. On the same day Brad Sparks picked out 7 birds among many Canada Geese on Lake White in Pike County. Rick Asamato found 9 birds on 2/3. They were in a flock of geese at the intersection of Social Row and Sheehan Rds in Montgomery County. Long-Tailed Duck: John Pogacnik spotted one while conducting a lake watch at his North Perry home on 2/3. Sandhill Crane: Randy Rogers glimpsed 8 birds flying over I-70 on the east side of Columbus on 2/6. Thayer's Gull: Tom Kemp found one while scanning the Maumee River from Ostego Park on 2/2. Iceland Gull: On 2/3 Sue Cudworth saw 4 birds at Cleveland's East 72nd Street hot water outlet. From the opposite end of Lake Erie, Dennis Vollmar had 1 bird from Ostego Park in Toledo. Glaucous Gull: Sue Cudworth reports that there were 3 birds at East 72nd Street on 2/3. Ostego Park in Toledo produced 1 bird for Tom Kemp on 2/2 and 3 birds for Dennis Vollmar on 2/3. Black-Legged Kittiwake: A great find for the Western Basin of Lake Erie, Tom Kemp found an adult bird on the Maumee River on 2/2. He viewed the bird from Ostego Park in Toledo. EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE: The Darke County birders found the West Manchester bird on 2/3. Long-eared Owl: Darke County Wildlife Area hosted 2 birds on 2/3. They were found by the Darke County Birders. On 2/2 Norman Lowe found 1 near Sugar Creek, Tuscarawas County. Northern Saw-Whet Owl: Norman Lowe reported 1 from near Sugar Creek, Tuscawaras County on 2/2. Northern Shrike: Karl Overman spotted on from the Magee Marsh causeway on 2/5. HARRIS' SPARROW: On was seen "South of New Bedford" by Norman Lowe on 2/2. More details can be found on the Bobolink Area RBA 330-763-5119 White-winged Crossbill: One bird is still sporadically visiting the feeders of John Pogacnik in North Perry. Common Redpolls: On 2/3 Tim Calborn hosted 1 at his North Olmstead feeders, John Pogacnik had 6 at his North Perry feeders, and Sally Isacco had 7 at her Chardon feeders. The feeders at Oak Openings Metropark had 2 on 2/2 according to George Sydlowski.
