Sunday afternoon I went birding, mostly in Lucas County, near Lake Erie. First stop was Pearson Metropark. Not bad. A flock of about 20 Tree Sparrows included a White-throated Sparrow, Song Sparrow & Chipping Sparrow. Others were Red-bellied & Downy Woodpeckers, House & Gold Finches, Red & White-breasted nuthatches, Blue Jay, Cardinals, Brown Headed Cowbird, plus a few others. Then out to Bayshore Power. A few American & Red-breasted Mergansers, scaup, Canada Geese & gulls by the ton. Then to Maumee Bay State Park. Saw a dozen Cedar Waxwings by the campground. Glassed 3 Wood Duck Nesting Boxes hoping to spot small owls. To my surprise I saw 2 Screech & 1 Saw-whet Owl, near the Big Hill. Lots of gulls there ,too.

Driving in to Metsker Marsh I saw 3 Horned Larks. Along the canal were 2 Lincoln's Sparrows. Around Lake Erie were more gulls. Saw a Raven returning to OH 2. At Ottawa NWR saw only 1 bird, a Ferruginous Hawk. Saw nothing for a long while. Started pouring while I was in the Woodville Subway eating a sandwich. Rain started slacking around Stony Ridge. A little west of there, the bird of the day flew over the road, a Barred Owl. Not a bad trip.
