A great treat for the two ornithology students who came out with me even though it was spring break. The Bald Eagle, about 2-3 years old, was seen from the campground boat launch on the north shore and again from the spillway. The first sighting was made as the bird was flying directly at us from the south shore. As it approached us, it veered away and flew to a tree across the little bay there. It stayed perched long enough for both students to get a good look, then flew away. We found it again from the spillway, perched in a tree about 200 m away. The light was not good and the bird flew away before we could really get on it. Larry Gara went out this afternoon, but was unable to relocate the bird. In other sightings, mostly the usual suspects. We spotted two Black Vultures in a kettle of Turkey Vultures and a Common Loon in spanking new alternate plumage.
