There were both a Surf Scoter and a Common Loon at the Darby Bend lakes region of Prairie Oaks MetroPark (west of Columbus). The scoter was an immature male, and could be found in the southernmost quarry lake, along with the loon, a Ruddy Duck, and a Ring-necked Duck. Hiking along the Big Darby Creek there and further south (at Sycamore Plains access) found only sporadic flocks of migrants. Highlights included Wood Thrushes Catbirds (common and singing at several spots) Brown Thrashers American Pipits (4-5, mostly around the shorelines of the lakes) Vireos - Yellow-throated, Warbling, Red-eyed, but not many of any Warblers - mostly Palms & Yellow-rumps, but also had Black&White, Black-throated Green, Parula (several spots), Yellow, Nashville, Yellow-throated, Blackpoll, Common Yellowthroat Sparrows - Chipping, Field, White=throated, Swamp, Song, Savannah Orioles - both Baltimore and Orchard Purple Finch (singing at the footbridge over the Creek) ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
