Walking around the Lower Shaker Lake this evening (exercising more than birding), I had a, "Wait a minute, what was /that/?" moment, as a Wild Turkey (breeding male) popped out from the trees across the lake and then flew back up to a perch. The bird perched in some of the trees on the north lake shore (just west of the "point" for those familiar with the lake) for a while, then flew back into the large pines back from the lake shore. I tried to rediscover it when we got around to the north side of the lake, but either it had moved on or it was doing too good a job of hiding in the pines. It's always a kick to see one of these country bumpkins in the city!
