The birds who have been kept down by the northerly winds should burst forth in a great movement the next several days. The high pressure area, which is a ridge extending along the whole Appalachians is slowly moving east, bringing a strong southerly flow. The winds have now (10 -11pm) changed to the south and the sky is quite clear. The winds are currently 20- 30 mph in the central plains. This is shown on the current weather map: http://weather.unisys.com/surface/sfc_map_inv.html OR http://tinyurl.com/m9btd Right now there is strong radar reflection through IL and IN and becoming strong into western and central Ohio at the moment. These URLS will give the picture at the time you view them and 1 hr before. To see this time later, go to the site http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/radar/ and set day for "Today" which will be Wed 4/16 UTC and the time for 0400 (= midnight our time) or later. Right now (11 EDT = 0300 UTC). Click on "Contiguous US" at the top of the map, or, to view the regional picture, "Regional reflectivity" on the menu on the left and then ILN in Ohio on the map. http://tinyurl.com/6g4z9b OR http://lnk.nu/rap.ucar.edu/jwz.php The NWS forecast has the air mass moving rather slowly such that this strong southerly flow should continue until Thursday, maybe into Friday. All this suggests a large movement. The last couple days, a movement has been suggested from Texas up through the Great Plains, now the movement will be up from the gulf. Eventually the flow come up from FL, which is now rather quiet in the northerly winds.
