A 4 PM I was being "scolded" by two male Baltimore orioles, perching where I always hang their feeder which had a hummingbird feeder on it. Immediately I hung some orange halves and the oriole feeder, and two females flew in. I don't remember them arriving this early before, but I don't know the dates for sure.
At 5 PM I looked out and there was a male Red-breasted grossbeak at the sunflower feeder. The legend is that they arrive on Mother's Day -- 2 weeks from now.
Pat Hayes, Laura and Shane Roberts are out in the field looking for warblers. I anxiously await their reports. June Campbell
