Encouraged by DUG's report, I went on a wild teal chase to Station Road Swamp, where I met a Hiram student named Clay. We found the two pairs of American GW Teal easily, but not their companion. We were there from about 3:30 to 4:30, and walked around the north side of the swamp to try other vantage points. As we were leaving in low spirits, Clay spottted him, at about 4:30. He was alone at the time, but soon two Americans came by to join the Eurasian visitor. Good luck to everyone else! I also spotted the first of 2008 for: Belted Kingfisher E. Bluebird Ruby-crowned Kinglet Green-winged Teal (local US species) ________________________________________ From: Ohio birds [[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of DUG [[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, April 14, 2008 1:22 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [Ohio-birds] Common/Eurasian Teal Hello all - Just got back from the Station Rd. swamp and as of 1:00pm the Common/Eurasian Teal was still present, south end of swamp and still in the company of the 2 pairs of Green-winged Teal. Great looks at the bird sitting on a log next to male & female green-wings, made the size difference very obvious with both species out of the water. Not a bad way to spend a lunch break. D.
