I am seeing a bird for the first time along the Ohio River in southeast
Ohio which I am not able to identify. It is rather small with a stubby tail;
white belly; iridescent blue along sides but not wings or head. It seems too
small to be a tree swallow - more the size of a nuthatch. It is an erratic,
acrobatic flyer and often skims the surface of the water. I have never seen
more than a dozen at any one time - usually half that number. Your
assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
