highlights at headlands beach state park this morning (05/22/2008) were two (2) adult laughing gulls, a very late piping plover and a briefly singing (but not seen) connecticut warbler.  we left the piping plover at the far east end of the nature preserve beach about 9:30 a.m..  the laughing gulls, both adults in summer plumage, were also at the far east end of the beach but departed withing 5 minutes after observation.  the connecticut warbler's song was heard from the understorey just to the right of the entrance to the state nature preserve dunes area.  at least 17 species of warblers were recorded with most early in the morning along upper and lower Zimmerman trail.
