Jeff Grabmeier and I spent about an hour birding the ravine at this Columbus city park in Clintonville this morning, May 1. It was quite birdy. At one point we were surrounded by four singing Wood Thrushes, which created a strikingly ethereal atmosphere. Five fly-over Double-crested Cormorants provided the first sighting of this species in the park for us. Rose-breasted Grosbeaks seemed to be everywhere; we estimate we saw at least a dozen. White-throated Sparrows remain numerous and vocal. Notable sightings include: Double-crested Cormorant White-eyed Vireo Blue-headed Vireo Red-eyed Vireo Ruby-crowned Kinglet Wood thrush Gray Catbird Blue-winged Warbler Nashville Warbler Yellow Warbler Yellow-rumped Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler Blackburnian Warbler Black and White Warbler Hooded Warbler Rose-breasted Grosbeak Baltimore Oriole Happy birding, Paul Gardner Columbus, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
