Finally had an observation gift that happens once a decade. Sunday morning, I went to our deck overlooking the ravine as part of my daily ritual. Heard a bunch of robins and jays carrying on and figured it had to be the Barred Owl I heard the day before. I whistled a screech owl and sure enough, the barred came in hovering below me turning circles. It then landed on a branch squarely in front of me. It saw me and flew-hopped a couple branches back into perfect view and stayed there for 15 minutes while we took pictures. It was amazingly patient as it was being dive-bombed by robins. It really was incredible being above it while it was flying. On another note, a Black-throated blue warbler was yard bird #105 and the Carolina Wrens nesting in the garage finally fledged yesterday. How on earth they raised the young with a garage door shut all day I’ll never know. Three Scarlet tanagers were icing on Saturday’s cake! Timothy Shue Director of Music Central Christian School P.O.
