Yesterday I saw my first Yellow-billed Cuckoo of the season at Squire Valley View Farm in Hunting Valley, OH (the border of Geauga and Cuyahoga County). Actually, we heard it first, giving its call that reminded me of a squirrel chattering. My son took a couple quick pictures that easily showed that Cuckoo silhouette but had to be blown-up on the computer to see the bill color. Later I listened to my Stokes CD and confirmed it as a Yellow-billed. There are also several Bobolinks in the fields as well as Meadowlarks. The Cuckoo was along the edge of the woods near the last picnic spot - take the main road until it ends. This property is owned by Case Western Reserve University but is open to the public.
