Greetings birders - A pack of local birders met for a rather damp walk at Bath Nature Preserve today (Sat) from 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. Between intermittent rain and a bit of fog, the weather was otherwise pleasant and calm for open field & scrub birding. Bath Nature Preserve is located on Ira Road in Summit County. BNP is a local favorite among Akron/Bath/Fairlawn birders. The habitat is _perfect_ for grassland & old field species. Surrounding woodlands are great for regular nesters like tanager, pewee, and Hooded Warbler. An excellent location to find up-close Bobolinks and meadowlarks. Typically at least one pair of Henslow's Sparrows though we came up short on this species today. I didn't realize till later, but we scored pretty well on breeding flycatchers, with 6 species. A Yellow-breasted Chat has returned (?) now for the second year in a row of hopefully attempted/succesful breeding. Highlights include: Green Heron - 6 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT - 1 highly vocal male; seen briefly by several folks Eastern Bluebird - 4 ALDER FLYCATCHER - 1 Willow Flycatcher - 6 Acadian Flycatcher - 1 Great Crested Flycatcher - 2 Eastern Wood-Pewee - 2 Eastern Kingbird - 3 Brown Thrasher - 1 Gray Catbird - 13 Yellow Warbler -15+ Bobolink - at least 10 males, surprisingly good looks at 5+ females Eastern Meadowlark - 8 Orchard Oriole - 3 Baltimore Oriole - 4 Indigo Bunting - 3 Field Sparrow - 12+ Savannah Sparrow - at least 1 pair best of birding - Jen Brumfield North Canton, OH [log in to unmask] _________________________________________________________________ Enjoy 5 GB of free, password-protected online storage. http://www.windowslive.com/skydrive/overview.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_Refresh_skydrive_062008 ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
