My brother Kevin and I were at Charlie's Pond about 7:30 pm.on Friday. There were two other gentlemen there, as well. We all agreed that it was the cricket frog singing and not a yellow rail. We did hear one black rail calling for several minutes on the south side of the road. We were first there about 5 and stayed for about 30 minutes before birding on River Road and the Pickaway Co. airport area. and then returned to Charlie's Pond. While in the car, we listened to the yellow rail on tape and decided, although a runner going past Charlie's pond insisted that he heard the yellow rail, it was not what we were hearing. Birds heard/seen in the area: Great blue heron TV ringneck pheasant with 3 chicks. black rail killdeer morning dove flicker downy willow flycatcher barn swallows tree swallows robin gray catbird common yellowthroat blue grosbeak indigo bunting many dickcissels E. towhee field sparrow grasshopper sp. Henslow's sp. song sparrow redwing bb E. meadowlark common grackle starling cowbird Balt. oriole goldfinch house sp. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
