Just returned from atlasing south of Bellevue, Ohio. Found a pair of Black-necked Stilts in a flood field off Twp. Rd 80 about 1/2 south of the Seneca /Sandusky County line road. Delorme Pg 38, 2, B/C. From Bellevue, take SR 18 south towards Republic. About 3/4 mile after you cross the RR tracks on the edge of Bellevue you enter Seneca County. Turn right onto the county line road. Continue west on the county line road about 2 miles (little more - it will be the third intersection) to Twp. Road 80. Turn left (south) and drive about 1/3 mile. The flood field is on your left(east) and the birds were feeding on the south side near the woods. This area has many flood field and has been very good for nesting waterbirds of late. Confirmed nesters so far this summer are Canada Goose, Wood Duck, Mallard, Green-winged Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Ruddy Duck, and Lesser Scaup. Probable nesters include Gadwall, American Wigeon, Northern Shoveler, and Hooded Merganser. Pied-billed Grebe and American Coot have been confirmed as nesters also. For the "old-time" birders, these are the flood fields that produced many great birds during the spring and summer of 1984.
