Refer to Bruce Simpson's report for Blendon Woods on July 12. I saw it myself on Saturday afternoon from the left shelter. It was sitting out the rain showers on a stump in the middle of the lake among the lily pads, preening it's rump. This made me wonder, Bruce, if the flying problem might have something to do with a defect in the waterproofing on it's down or feathers, possibly due to some contamination from somewhere. I also saw the 2 Wood Ducks from the right shelter at the far end. Although the eye mark indicated female, I could not tell on my own whether they were young or adults in eclipse plumage. From the few references I had available, I couldn't find any obvious field marks to distinguish. Any help for anyone? Bruce?
