I've had a nice treat at my birdfeeders here in Avon Lake (Lorain County).
I've had a Hairy Woodpecker on the peanuts and cracked sunflower every day
for the last week or so. I always have Downy Woodpeckers and Red Bellied
Woodpeckers, but since I've moved to my house in 2002, this is only the
second time I've seen the Hairy. He's possibly a juvenile, but he dwarfs my
Downy and we are really enjoying watching him.

Also, if anyone has any interest in Turkey Vultures, there is a rather large
venue of about 15 to 25 that are roosting at the mill downtown Grafton
(south central Lorain County). You can watch the kettle form around 630 or
700 and by 830 they are all perched on the top rungs of the mill towers. If
anyone wants directions, just contact me off list and I'll give you the
specific location. It's pretty easy to find in Grafton. There aren't many
roads to get lost!

Enjoy the birds.
