After Saturday's results when Ned and Robbie Foley birded with me, Linda suggested a second trip north as she had not seen any Dickcissels this year. We started at Killdeer Plains where we were easily able to locate about a dozen Dickcissels. They were located in many of the fields along CH-67 and CH-77. Many of the Dickcissels perched atop shrubs right at the edge of the road, while some were perched atop isolated shrubs in the fields. Many others could be heard singing in the fields. Surprisingly though, we located no Bobolinks at Killdeer Plains. Other notable observations were Bald Eagles, Great Egrets, Eastern Meadowlarks, Scarlet Tanagers, and Common Yellowthroats. We next stopped at Big Island where we again located cooperative Dickcissels. Locations where we located them include Herr Road, off the viewing platform on SR 95, and along Epsyville Road. There were a few Bobolinks along SR 95. We also located a variety of shorebirds in the wetland areas at Herr Road and SR 95 to the west of Herr Road. Shorebirds included Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Solitary Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, and Spotted Sandpiper.
