Hello list,

Last week and for 2-3 weeks previously, our lawn (about 2-3 acres worth) has
been inhabited by 20-30 Am. robins (about 80-95% young of the year with
immature plumages). Most them were eating what most robins eat i.e. insects,
worms etc. But 1 or 2 individuals kept returning to a hanging basket of
Portulacas. Thereon they on several visits, consumed the developed, but
unopened buds, leaving the smaller buds and open flowers untouched.

I just thought this was an unusual observation of interest to the list and a
small addition to our knowledge of the dietary habits of our robins.
