I was at Conneaut from about 6:30--2:00 today.  There were other birders and photographers from Ontario, Michigan, PA and Ohio who showed up also---that was a little unexpected.  Highlights were many: green-winged teal, a flyover flock of 6 common mergansers, green heron, 2+ bald eagles, osprey, Cooper's hawk (hunting shorebirds), black-bellied plover, sanderlings (first juvs.), 2 Baird's sandpipers, stilt sandpiper, short-billed dowitcher, juv. WILSON'S PHALAROPE (for a few minutes), Bonaparte's gulls, 9 Caspian terns, belted kingfishers, purple martin, bank swallows, and yellow warblers.  In the late afternoon I hit Berlin Res., there are ~175 shorebirds there now.  Best finds were an Am. black duck, great egrets, stilt sandpiper, Caspian terns, and a (barely) singing warbling vireo.  The mudflats there are growing daily.  I ended up with 14 shorebird species at the 2 sites today.  There are lots of freshly-cut fields in NE Ohio now, I've been
eyeballing them as I drive but haven't seen anything but killdeers.  As Jen B. mentioned awhile ago, keep an eye out for grasspipers.  Other birds seeking easy insect prey could also show up--anything from cattle egret to a stray flycatcher I suppose.  Later, Craig
