My goodness, I'd probably be fired for forgetting Rutherford Wetland and the Ora Anderson Nature Trail. Located on the Athens Ranger District with a paved accessible trail. The trail is 1/2 mile in and the same out. Built on an abandoned railroad bed in between Rutherford Wetland and Monday Creek. Located in Hocking Co. along St. Rt. 278 about 1.5 miles north of Carbon Hill. The trail has interpretative paneling and poems from Mr. Andersons along the entire length. There is also a nice overlook of the wetland in the upper parking area. http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/wayne/recreation_sites/trails/ora_anderson_naturtrail.html The website also has a downloadable map of the trail and wetland. Very flat and asphalt covered. Nice diversity of habitats: forest, fallow fields, cropland, etc. You can find more info on it and other birding areas along the Hocking Valley Birding Trail at http://birdhocking.com/adena_bikeway.htm Lynda Andrews Wildlife Biologist Wayne National Forest 740/753-0550 voice 740/753-0118 fax "When a man destroys a piece of art we call him a vandal; when he destroys a work of nature we call him a developer." I know about the boardwalk at Magee Marsh, but most places near here have gravel or mud trails, which is too much for my wheelchair. In particular, Sandy Ridge, our best closest bet, is too difficult. Someone mentioned that Columbia Reservation Metropark has some asphalt trails but I don't know if the birding is any good. Thanks for any suggestions. David Riggs ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
