Hi all, Had a great time this morning with a group of birders that were part of the Audubon Ohio assembly. Which, by the way, was very well done and full of interesting talks. Kudos to Audubon. Our post-assembly field trip went to Funk Bottoms Wildlife Area in Wayne County, and as always at that site, the birding was great. Lots of Sandhill Cranes, small numbers of Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawks passing over, still a few Palm Warblers amongst the scads of Yellow-rumped Warblers, and lots of sparrows of a number of species. The headliner was that little ochraceous sparrow with the too long name, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow. After considerable time stalking this furtive skulker, he finally teed up long enough to get him in the scope so that every member of our party could get a good look. Thank you Sharp-tail, and also Becky Thompson and Ethan Kistler for their dogged work. A picture-perfect fall day to be outside and enjoying birds.
