From the two ring-neckeds that showed up at the Quarry Lake last week,
marking the official start of winter in my book, we now have 21 by this  morning's
count.

Like the old New England tradition of judging the severity of the coming
winter by the size of the wood piles your neighbors stack up, this early count
harbors signs of a mid-range winter ahead.
