This afternoon I had a few minutes and stopped in at Prairie Oaks Darby Bend Lakes area off Amity Road on the far west side of Franklin County. Not much was going on, but as I got ready to leave, I spotted something unusual in a small tree. Sitting right at the top of the tree was a beautiful Northern Shrike! It sat for a few minutes and then flew to another little tree just a few feet away. I was able to watch it for a good 10 minutes from a couple of locations, so my identification is about 99% sure. Lovely bird. Don't know if it's unusual to see them at this time of year around here or not, but he certainly was accommodating. Enjoying the beauty of God's birds in every season!!!
