Yesterday, Wednesday, at about 4:00, there were at least 170 Hooded Mergansers along the far edge of the pond northwest of the Rt 2 / Rt 269 interchange in Bayview. They can be viewed from the small area where fishermen often park, but a scope is needed. They can also be seen, with difficulty as you take the westbound ramp onto Rt 2 to cross the bay. Medusa Marsh still had some open water, with many geese and Mallards and some Gadwall and Black Duck. There may have been other species present, but the phragmites now makes viewing much more difficult. Sheryl Young **************One site has it all.
