Hello, My son and I had an interesting and unsettling day of birding. To echo Laura Gooch's post we witnessed what can only be described as carnage. As can be seen in the photo in the link below, someone apparently gunned their vehicle through a groups of Ring-billed Gulls at the parking lot of the E. 55th Street Marina along the lakefront of Cleveland. At least 22 Ring-billed Gulls were killed and at least five maimed. I took the birds to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. http://www.clebsch.com/bird/gulls/e55thRBGU2.jpg We saw a Northern Mockingbird on the Shoreway Road Cleveland Lakefront (just East of Burke): http://www.clebsch.com/bird/NOMO12.7.08.jpg Photo of tagged gull mentioned in my last post: http://www.clebsch.com/bird/gulls/rbgullyellowtag.jpg It was a beautiful day. With strong cold North winds and water spray the conditions were challenging. Yet the wind direction brought the gulls together in enormous concentrations...the most yet this year for me in terms of Herring Gull density. Best regards and good birding, Hans Clebsch ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
