It was very windy and the gulls were actively feeding along the edge of the
shoreline offering some great views. There about 1,000 Bonaparte's gulls in
the area but only a few were feeding at one time and they were at the mouth
of the outflow where there were few large gulls. There was a single adult
BLACK-HEADED GULL. It was first observed sitting out on the lake with all
of the other Bonaparte's gulls. It was later seen making a single pass at
the outflow. It grabbed gizzard shad and went back out and sat. i did not
see it come by again. Of the large gulls, I found 2 THAYER"S GULLS (1
adult, 1 1st cycle), 1 KUMLIEN'S GULL (1 1st cycle), 6 LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULLS (3 adults, 1 1st cycle, and 2 3rd cycle), and 3 GLAUCOUS GULLS (1
adult 1 2nd cycle, and 1 1st cycle). There were probably less than 30 great
black-backed gulls.

There were a couple of oddball gulls also. There was an adult Bonaparte's
gull with a full black hood. The weirdest bird was an adult ring-billed
gull that appeared perfectly normal on one side of its wing and leucistic on
the other. The wingtip was mostly white with only a faint hint of the dark
tip and the upper wing on that side was mottled white and washed out gray.

Not surprisingly, while I was there I saw at least 90 northern pintail. All
were pure pintail flocks.
