Today there were over 170 Tundra Swans in the shallow waters to the south of Perry's Victory on South Bass Island. The numbers have been growing with the cold weather. There were approx. 20 Mallards along the ice on the shore and about 30 Canada Geese and approx. 100 Scaup swimming around with the swans. Further out in deeper water were about 30 American Goldeneye. In Put-in-Bay Harbor, there were 2 greater black-backed gulls in with the Herring Gulls. There were lots of Bonaparte's yesterday. There was a mix of many bufflehead, scaup, mallards, about 4 hooded mergansers, and about 4 double-crested cormorants swimming near the reef between South Bass and Gibraltar Island.
