I was passing through Cleveland this evening around dusk and saw quite a few gulls at East 72nd Street so I stopped briefly. there were probably 400+ gulls flying around the open water and I quickly picked up 1st cycle Thayer and Iceland Gulls. Before I could scan more a truck passed by sending them up. They took a while to settle back down and I didn't have much time so I left before they came in. I did scan quickly out to the open water just east of the outer breakwall and was absolutely shocked about the number of birds out there this evening. The water looked black there were so many gulls out there. Unfortunately light was failing and they were too distant to look through. If the lake freezes I think it will get pretty good again. They are predicting a low of 3 tonight with wind chills of -11, so that may help. At my house it is almost totally iced over with a few very distant gulls this morning. The feeders had a few siskins, but little else.
