A CACKLING GOOSE was in with a flock of about 60 Canada geese in North Perry, Lake County. They were observed flying just east of the intersection of Rte 20 and Antioch Road. They were flying north and were getting ready to land. I have not seen any geese around here in some time due to the high snow levels, so these may have just came in. We still have several inches of crusted snow, so I doubt that they will stick around due to the difficulty in getting food. At my house I had a group of 26 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS. They were at the top of a spruce feeding. They were around for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately all the conifers with cones in my yard are really tall so there is not much opportunity to get photos. The lake is mostly frozen, but there was an open lead of about 100 feet. There were a few gulls and ducks moving along it. I saw common goldeneyes, common mergansers, great black-backed and herring gulls.
