Birders, Sunday was a great day for a couple of winter finches. I thought I'd be the only person in Ohio that has not seen White-winged crossbills this winter. If I chase, they are not there (just my luck). But Sunday, Terri Martincic and I were going out in the Middleburg Hts. and Berea areas and first, Terri sees a Common Redpoll at the thistle feeder in my yard (Middleburg Hts.) Woo-hoo! As we tromped around some potential crossbill areas (pines/spruces loaded with cones) nary a crossbill. We walked in a suburban neighborhood near Berea High School and a flock of 20 to 25 crossbills land, stay for a few seconds then take off. We definitely saw some White-winged, but some were darker. We could have been looking at them at a poor angle, but any reports of Red crossbills? Do they hang together? ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
