As of 2:00 PM today, Tuesday January 6th, the Black-legged Kittiwake was still present at the area near the dam on Hoover Reservoir (Delaware County). The Kittiwake was slightly north of its location by the floating docks of yesterday. We observed it from the Area B parking lot as it mingled with the Ring-billed Gulls. The Area B parking lot is the area just past the fenced in maintenance facility on Sunbury Road. The Kittiwake was less than 10 feet from the shore and by using the car as a blind we got very nice looks at the bird. A quick look of other activity on the water produced the following additional species: Great Blue Heron Canada Geese (all large race) American Wigeon American Black Duck Mallard Canvasback Redhead Ring-necked Duck Lesser Scaup Common Goldeneye Hooded Merganser Bonaparte's Gull Ring-billed Gull Herring Gull Charlie Bombaci **************New year...new news.
