A brown headed cowbird joined the action at the feeders today... January
bird #25 on my lame, sad list... It seems a little unusual for Mr. Cowbird
to be slumming it this far north in January? I've also got lots of juncos,
cardinals, goldfinches, house finches (extra vivid this year?), house
sparrows, three song sparrows, two white-throated sparrows, a smattering of
tufted titmice, mourning doves, chickadees, wb nuthatches, downy wp, red
bellied wp, bluejays, a hairy wp, and a gorgeous red shouldered hawk showing
up from time to time, scattering all the other birds in every direction.
Starlings, crows and a flicker have also been seen in the yard this week. I
have not seen/heard the resident carolina wren since the weekend. The
weather is keeping me from increasing my January list at any sort of
respectable rate... pray for a heat wave.
