Steve Landes just called to report that the first-year black-legged
kittiwake remained near the Hoover Res. dam in northern Franklin
County. It was resting with ring-billed gulls this morning on the ice
just north of open water at the dam, and easily picked up by its
slighter darker mantle, with dark bill, folded wings, post-ocular spot
and "scarf." These birds do not usually hang around for long.
