I checked the Mahoning River from Lowellville to Struthers again this morning.  It is still mostly ice-free, and continues to attract and hold wintering waterbirds.  Highlights today were 2 Am. black ducks, 6 ring-necked ducks, 1 greater scaup, 1 bufflehead, 8 c. goldeneyes, 25 hooded mergansers, 1 pied-billed grebe, and 1 Am. coot.  Not bad for what used to be an industrial sewer.  Nearby in Coitsville Twp. were red-shouldered hawk, red-tailed hawks, several Am. robins, and 25 cedar waxwings.  Later, Craig
