Raptors are widely spread out this week. The area north east of Middlefield, and northwest of Mesopotamia produced decent numbers, including the highest count of Rough-legged hawks thus far. Noticeably absent for the past few weeks are Northern Harriers. Rough-legged Hawk - 12 (2 dark morph) Red Tail Hawk - 7 Red-shouldered Hawk - 3 (1 juvy) American Kestrel - 3 (2 female, 1 male) Cooper's Hawk - 2 Horned Lark / Snow buntings - 2 mixed flocks of about 100 birds each A short trip to Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area and Mosquito Lake was mostly disappointing. The Lake is completely frozen all the way as far as the eye can see. Bald Eagle - 4 (1 juvy) Red Tail Hawk - 4 American Kestrel - 1 Great Blue Heron - 1 If anyone would like more specific directions, contact me off list. G-g-good B-b-ird-ding, its cold!
