Very interesting...I saw thousands and thousands of crows flying north for about 8-10 miles...seemed endless...here in the Roanoke, Virginia area where I'm visiting til tomorrow. Had to pinch myself realizing it was not an indicator of Spring when seeing TVs catching thermal winds here in Dixie. Denise in Akron, Ohio www.feathersfibersfaith.blogspot.com "Look at the birds..." Matthew 6:26 I look at them because I believe in their existence, the way their songs begin and end each day–the invocations and the benedictions to God Himself. I look to the birds because they remind me of what I love rather than what I fear. And that God's eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me! --- On Sat, 1/10/09, Thais Tepper <[log in to unmask]> wrote: From: Thais Tepper <[log in to unmask]> Subject: [Ohio-birds] crows roosting To: [log in to unmask] Date: Saturday, January 10, 2009, 11:41 AM Last week, we saw over about 5000 crows in a 10 mile stretch of I77 heading toward Cambridge. I found a website that discussed this winter behavior. It said 1000s or 10,000s of crows will fly to a roosting site near a town or city at dusk because the ambient air temperature is warmer due to heat loss from buildings, Early in the AM, the crows will fly off to their regular hunting gounds and return the next dusk to roost. This makes sense, as crows are very smart.
