Hey folks - between meetings today up at the Edge Dave Minney came running in calling a golden eagle. Needless to say there was a commotion as we all piled out of the building. Sure enough there it was a juvenal golden with a broad white stripe at the base of the tail spinning around the building. What a shocker. We have only recorded two in this county in the twenty years we've been watching. I also went home for lunch saw a huge (150+) of passerines in on the road. As I approached they wouldn't move they just sat there and stared at me. As I got closer they turned into purple finches. A huge flock that wouldn't move, it makes me think that they are from way up north perhaps from the boreal regions where they have not developed a proper fear of cars and humans. I almost picked off a couple of them even going slow. Never encountered something like this before. Interesting.
