Today ( Feb. 15), at 10:30 AM a juvenile Bald Eagle (about two years old by its plumage) was seen picking at something on the ground in an open field of shallow furrows with weed stubble. The field is the north east corner of St. Rt. 252 (Columbia Rd.) and Redfern Rd. High tension lines cross over where the bird was sitting. A red-tailed hawk harassed the eagle; the eagle flew into the trees, but appeared to fumble and did not land, as the hawk was right behind it. Flying east and into the distance, the eagle did not return. The red-tail then assumed a perch on the highest tree around and stayed there for quite some time. A large nest was seen in the trees behind the hawk - most likely the hawk's nest. Note: Rt. 252 follows Rocky River which is close by.
