An interesting report from Kansas's famed shorebird spot Cheyenne
Bottoms yesterday included the following:
        20+ killdeers
        13 greater yellowlegs
        1 lesser yellowlegs
        4 Baird's sandpipers
        1 least sandpiper
One freakishly early shorebird would be just that, interesting but
freakish, and the killdeers are unremarkable. But the other four species
showing up this early makes you wonder if something larger may be going
on. Air temp there ranged from 18-43 degrees F yesterday, by the way.
Don't expect Baird's as they seldom pass this far east on their run to
the breeding grounds. Still, they could show up (Peterjohn says there
are no Ohio specimen records, but there are in fact two) but probably
not for a month.
Cheyenne Bottoms is at just about exactly the same latitude as
southernmost Ohio.
