Considering that speciation is merely a human construct, Creagles are certainly possible. In reptiles snakes, turtles and lizards of different genera and families are able to reproduce successfully. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Hinkle" <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] Sent: Wednesday, February 4, 2009 11:58:07 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [Ohio-birds] Creagle Reports Why no, Steve......as first noted by local birder Sam Walker three years ago, the Creagle is an apparent turkey vulture/bald eagle hybrid that passes through NE Ohio anytime between late January (rare) and March 14. On March 15, the Annual Return of the Buzzards to Cleveland Metroparks Hinckley Reservation, they are pushed north overnight by the migrating turkey vultures. Little is known of their life history, though popular legend suggests that they nest on the bare ground of Baffin Island in the far north of Canada. Regardless, they are never seen here in spring, summer of fall. They ARE rare, so don't expect to see one, but each year a few reports come in to Ohio Birds by folks mistaking them for turkey vultures ("buzzards"). As Cleveland Metroparks "official buzzard spotter", I am charged with helping folks understand the difference. Birding is ... or should be... fun ! Best wishes for a bird-laden spring.......
