Regina Schieltz and I saw the white-winged crossbills at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton this morning. As Kevin Myers said in his e-mail, they were near the burial site of the Wright Brothers. We saw 5 males and 9 females, all on the ground under the trees. The ground here was littered with cones. The birds seemed fairly tame and let us get to within about ten feet of them before flying. Then they came back when we stood still for a couple of minutes. Other Birds at Woodland Blue Jay House Sparrow Dozens of Robins House Finch Red-bellied Woodpecker Starling Dark-eyed Junco Carolina Chicadee Northern Cardinal Downy Woodpecker Golden-crowned Kinglet Brown Creeper We went on to Englewood Metro Park, where we added Cedar Waxwing, Great Blue Heron, Herring Gull and Tufted Titmouse.
