Hello! Just a quick note on a few rarities reported within the last few days that were observed today by myself, my wife Ricki, Dan Sanders, and Doreene Linzell. This morning, we observed the male Eurasian Wigeon in Pond 3 at Killdeer WA, and early this afternoon we observed the Red-Throated Loon (along with 9 or 10 Common Loons) at CJ Brown reservoir in Buck Creek State Park. The best vantage point for the Red-Throated Loon was from the point of land adjacent to the parking area downhill from the Nature Center. The two Ross's Geese reportedly yesterday at Old Reid Park were at the beach of CJ Brown reservoir feeding in the lawn area with some Canada Geese. The slightly larger of the two Ross's appeared to be a juvenile (see Sibley's for distinguishing marks). We had some great close up views of the Red-Throated Loon (with the sun at our backs) and especially the Ross's Geese. In the mud flats of the upper reaches of the reservoir, we also observed a lone early Least Sandpiper. Directions to CJ Brown/Buck Creek are on the OOS web site, whereas a map of Killdeer is on the ODNR web site. Rob Lowry Powell, Ohio **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above.
