I checked the ponds at Delaware Wildlife Area and Delaware Lake on Saturday morning from 8:30-10:30 but could not locate the Eurasian Wigeon that was reported on Friday. There were numerous American Wigeon in the pond area including one odd bird that had a mostly white cheek. There were good numbers of ducks present including Common Goldeneye, Northern Pintail, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Redhead, American Black Duck, Canvasback, Bufflehead, Northern Shoveler and and Green-winged Teal. Signs of spring included numerous Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, singing Eastern Bluebirds and a few Killdeer. I also saw one male Ring-necked Pheasant on Panhandle Road on the way to the levee. Yesterday evening at Highbanks Metro Park, I had four Wood Ducks flying up the Olentangy River, several Red-winged Blackbirds and a group of 17 Turkey Vultures. I also had a group of seven Yellow-rumped Warblers but they have probably wintered in the park.
