I began an early day with a friend at Calamus Marsh near Circleville... Ruby-crowned Kinglet Red-bellied Woodpecker Common Grackle Downy Woodpecker Red-winged Blackbird Easter Towhee Common Crow Turkey Vulture Carolina Chickadee Tufted Titmouse Wood Duck Northern Cardinal Song Sparrow Blue Jay Carolina Wren House Wren? Rusty Blackbird? (probably, but I am still becoming familiar at spotting them) ... and maybe a few other common birds that I might be forgetting. Then we headed over to Marion State Park. On the lake we saw... Tree Swallow Canada Goose Ruddy Duck Double-crested Cormorant (a group standing on the opposite shore) American Coot Green Winged Teal Scaup? (or maybe Ring-billed Duck, not sure) ... and a Belted Kingfisher that we watched bludgeon a crawfish on a tree limb before gulping it down. Along the trail that goes around the lake we saw... Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Yellow-rumped Warbler ... among other common birds that one would expect to find in the thick trees along that trail.
