The hummingbird numbers are not necessarily low - just the flower abundance
is especially robust this year.  HB may be feeding on flowers, and
associated insects, preferentially.  I still have good numbers coming to my
feeder but note that they are mostly late in the day - toping off for the
night.  See comment in the Columbus Dispatch metro section, p B4, by John
Switzer on this subject.
