I was doing some breeding bird surveys at Arcola Creek Estuary in the extreme northeast corner of Lake County. Water levels in the marsh are the highest I have seen them in a number of years. As a result there is some great breeding bird habitat there. I saw or heard least bittern, Virginia rail, sora, 3 pair of marsh wrens, alder flycatcher and swamp sparrows. Water levels are beyond knee boot height in much of the marsh. Also of interest was a flyby osprey.
