This late afternoon I was called outside by a bird call I didn't recognize. The bird was moving between trees in my yard so I had the chance to see who it was. To my surprise, it was a female purple finch singing a song of ~5-6 notes. She'd sing it a couple of times, move to another tree and repeat. She did this for a good half hour. I checked out the Cornell site and the only female song mentioned was a 1-2 minute warbling song sung while on the nest. This was a new one for me! ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
