Hi Everyone, At the invitation of friends, we took a short walk in Forest Hill Park, entering from the parking lot at Forest Hill and Terrace, in East Cleveland, getting there about 7 PM tonight. In about an hour, we had some good birds: Baltimore Oriole Indigo Bunting (a pair) Rose-breasted Grosbeak (a pair) Wood Thrush (heard, not seen) Eastern Wood-Pewee (ditto) Song Sparrow (a couple of particularly beautiful light-toned birds) But our best luck was with woodpeckers: Northern Flicker Red-bellied Woodpecker Red-headed Woodpecker! (These used to be common in Forest Hill Park, and we even used to see active nests, but not for years now) Pileated Woodpecker nest! (We had lots of views of a nestling, nearly fledged if not already fledged, sticking its head out of the cavity and calling for Mom‹we also had good looks at Mom) Hairy Woodpecker nest!‹directly across the path from the Pileated nest. A nestling stuck its head out, and Dad brought some juicy morsels) Best wishes, Steve Cagan Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County ----------- Steve Cagan, photographer www.stevecagan.com 216-932-2753 (USA) Current and upcoming activities: stevecagan.com/contents/currentactivities.html ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
